Robotics Club

Kids Focusing on build
With the renewal of Star Wars movie, this new generation of Sci Fi fans has found themselves totally in awe with the ever so cute BB8 robot.

NIHERST’s robotics’ club is perfect for budding engineers to learn how to build and program their own robots.  This club provides an ongoing non-formal education in robotics through which they can acquire basic skills in robotics programming software; learn and understand the various features and capabilities of robots e.g. robotic sensing and locomotion principles; and acquire mechanical skills in building robots.
Their classes are held at the National Science Centre located at the Corner Churchill Roosevelt Highway and Old Piarco Road, D'Abadie, Trinidad.

Science Club

Children today are fascinated by the what, how and why things operate. Last week Matthew asked what makes the cloud float and not fall from the sky. My answer is always the same - let’s Google to find out why. A science class I thought would be ideal to meet some of Matthew's curiosity.

NIHERST has a Science Club that caters to both junior and senior minds alike. Their programs aim to stimulate young minds for growth towards critical thinking, problem solving and to reinforce concepts taught in the primary and secondary school science curriculum.

Their classes are held at the National Science Centre located at the Corner Churchill Roosevelt Highway and Old Piarco Road, D'Abadie, Trinidad.

Do you believe this can foster children's love for science rather than fear it as something difficult?

Welcome

This blog will focus on activities in Trinidad and Tobago that kids can enjoy. I'm a mother of a 9 year old boy Matthew, who is focused too much on video games and YouTube reviews of Minecraft that I began seeking alternate choices for him to spend his time.

Finding new activities beside the regular football and cricket camps was a challenge. I would search newspapers for possible advertisements on what was offered and frequently that turned up empty. Most recent I was surprised to learn that Trinidad offered Archery Classes in south. My interactions with other parents provided that flow of creative exchange on what our kids were into and what they could try. That was my best source since websites were outdated and you had to know something exists before you could find them on Facebook.

After much thought I felt that one location for all activities would be the most helpful to all the busy moms out there (and yes dads too), who desperately try to balance work, home, family and most of all their sanity!

The aim of this blog is to identify the exciting alternatives to video games to involve our kids in. I hope you enjoy my upcoming posts as much as I will enjoy putting them together. Take some time to read our journey as we explore new things within our shores', and let me know if you are looking for anything in particular....
